The Black Nebula carrot is such a fun and rare heirloom, and special carrot for that matter. While other dark purple/black carrots exist, it is the Black Nebula that is dark from skin to core and very different from its other colored carrots. Contrary to popular belief, black carrots have a longer history than orange carrots. They were cultivated in the Middle and Far East before orange carrots existed. They are very nutritious due to their high concentration of antioxidants (anthocyanin) the property that gives them and all other blue and purple fruits their color. They take about 80 days to harvest from planting seed, and they are open pollinated varieties.
