Aladdin’s Lamp

,

The Aladdin’s Lamp tomato is a Russian commercial variety, originally known as ‘Grusha Oranzhevaya’. Over time it became known as ‘Lampa Aladdina’ (Russian for Aladdin’s Lamp) when the seeds made its way across Europe to the Americas. Aladdin is a fictional character in Arabic fairytales (originally Syrian) and the name means “nobility of the faith”.

The fruit does look interestingly like an Arabian lamp, yellow fruit that is pear shaped with ribbing, and sometimes has green on the shoulders. The flavor is mild and the texture is buttery with few seeds.
