Introduced to the Americas by Seed Saver Exchange in 1998, but originally an old Ukrainian family heirloom tomato that probably came from Tula Russia many years earlier. Considered by many tomato experts to be one of the finest of the black tomato varieties.
The fruits are unusually shaped and about the size of a beefsteak tomato. It’s rich purple outer appearance contrasts beautifully with its dark green get covered seeds.
The flavor is dark, rich, savory, sweet, mysterious, and wet.
