Thanks to Craig LeHoullier, retired chemist and author of Epic Tomatoes, we have been gifted one of the most delicious heirloom tomatoes around &#8211; Cherokee Purple. In 1990, Craig received the seeds from a gentleman named John Green, who was gifted them from a lady whose neighbors family had grown them for over 100 years. Furthermore, John was told that these tomato seeds were originally a gift from First Nation Cherokee Indians. The fruits are of the beefsteak variety, purple\/brown in color, and are said to be smoky, sweet, acidic, and savory all at the same time.
