This variety is believed to be a creation of the Russian gardener N.P. Kustov from the town of Babushkin. It was originally called ‘Khurma’. Interestingly, ‘Khurma’ is not a Russian word. It is believed that the word originated from Persian ‘Khormaloo'(خرمالو) which translates to “Date-Plum”, referring to the taste of the fruit which some people describe as similar to both plums and dates. The Russian Persimmon tomato orange / gold color and shaped like a persimmon. The texture is uncannily similar to that of a firm persimmon. The flesh is meaty, and there are few seeds.

The flavor is unique and out of this world! It might just be the sweetest tomato I have ever tasted. When eating the Russian Persimmon tomato, you will understand why a tomato is considered a fruit! I cannot stress enough that this is one of my favorite tomatoes of all time!!!
