In 1902 the Golden Bantam Sweet Corn is the first yellow sweet corn commercially introduced and sold by Burpee seeds. In this era, white corn was considered more elegant and dominated American dinner tables However, the Golden Bantam Corn quickly became popular for its deliciously sweet flavor as well as its ability to grow well in colder temperatures before soils have warmed up in early spring. The stalks grow to about 5′ tall and produce nice size ears in 80 days.\r\n

\r\nMaize\/Corn was domesticated 10,000 years ago in Mexico by native peoples and was introduced to the European colonists by Native Americans and eventually brought back to Europe by Christopher Columbus. Today it is widespread globally and perhaps is the most relied on crop.\r\n

The word “Corn” is primarily used in American English, while “Maize” is used internationally as well as in scientific circles. Whatever you call it, Corn\/Maize is perhaps the most important domesticated food crop in the world as it has been a primary food source that provides enough calories to allow populations to survive and expand.\r\n
