Coeur de Boeuf (Barcelona)

A long time favorite heirloom tomato cultivated in several countries in Europe. The name translates to bulls heart, beef heart, or bovine heart and is a favorite variety found in France, Italy, and several Eastern European countries. While each country has a variety with this name, the fruits are often quite different. This variety came from the Boqueria market in Barcelona.

The shape of the fruit has quite a lot of variation. Some fruits round, others are heart shaped, while others still are oddly pear shaped and bulbous. The flavor is earthy, sweet, and delightful.
