Ciliegino (Catania)

This is one of the most popular market tomatoes in Sicily. The high sugar content of the Ciliegino tomatoes grown in Sicily have become classified as an IGP crop (indication géographique protégée, in English protected geographical indication), the European Union food certification. While the Ciliegino tomatoes from Catania are not IGP, the same tomatoes grown in Pachino (a few hours south). The name “Ciliegino” is Italian for cherry.
