Cosmonaut Volkov

A truly delicious tomato. This variety originated in the Ukraine, but it’s history is more convoluted. It was named by a Russian space engineer Mikhailovich Maslov who had a love for gardening. In his garden he selected his favorite tomato and named it after his friend and colleague Vladislav Volkov, an astronaut who died returning from the first visit to the Earth’s first space station.

The fruits are three pear shaped globes that are connected at the center. They are reddish orange, and have thin skin. The flesh is smooth and creamy, containing few seeds and little juice. The flavor is sweet like a nectarine and has very low acidity.
