Indeterminate vines produce ripe fruit mid season in about 80 days. The DeColgar tomato is a traditional storage tomatoes from Spain. The name means “to hang up”. It is very common to see long trusses of these fruits hanging in the markets in Barcelona, as the plant produces strong vines and abundant fruit. These fruits are picture perfect in both shape and color, a deep red fruit about the size of a golf ball. This variety is almost extinct and hardly known outside of Barcelona. While the flavor is very nice, the skin is very tough. I believe this makes for a wonderful roasting tomato, since the fruit will hold its shape on the outside, but explode with juice upon first bite. Make sure to cover your mouth as not to spray your dinner partner with tomato seeds.
