Pineapple Sage (Salvia Elegans)

Salvia Elegans ” Pineapple Sage” is a perennial shrub native to Central Mexico and the Sierra Madre del Sur. is a hummingbirds best friend. During the winter when all other plants have lost their flowers, this one still offers nectar from its hardy flowers for those cute birds. Beyond that, the plants have beautiful foliage and fantastic fuchsia flowers that are both fragrant and edible. If you are lucky you will often find the flowers in your salad and on your ice cream or at the very least as a nice after dinner tea. It grows to about 7 feet tall and maybe 3-4′ wide if you let it. It will also do fine with hard pruning. Best time for pruning is late winter to early spring.
