Indeterminate vines produce ripe fruit in about 85-90 days.
They are very large unusual fruits that almost look deformed. Some fruits are 3 chambers connected in the center, while others look more like oxhearts.
The history is a bit unclear as some people claim it to be the same as Cow Tit (a variety used for sauces that is elongated and has completely different flavor. Originally from Southern Indiana. Some people claim it originated from the Cow Tit variety but that could be a confusion as there is also mention of a variety called Goat Tit, and another called Bull Sack, and the goat back could be a selection of any of these. Tomato expert Dr. Carolyn Male tried to unravel the confusion on the Tomatoville website but a clear answer was not reached to its heritage.
What I do know is that Curtis Jackson of Renaissance Farms in Indiana has been selecting the GoatBag variety for 14 years and is responsible for its huge size and continued super sweet flavor. He got the seeds from a farmers market and just kept growing them out and choosing the seeds from the largest fruits until they have over doubled in size.
Whatever the story is, these fruits are exceptional! Super sweet with strong tomato flavor and leathery outer skin. They are perfect for sandwiches, sauces, eating with creamy goat cheese or putting in salads. Perfect for sauces, sandwiches, cooking, paste and more! They are must have!
