First introduced by John Lewis Childs of Floral Park, New York, as ‘Ruby Gold’ tomato. It was later renamed by Ben Quisenberry as ‘Gold Medal’ tomato in his 1976 catalog. Whatever you call it, this tomato just might be the sweetest tomato you will ever eat. It is a very large yellow tomato with a dark red stain in the center and some red smudging on some corners of the fruit.
The gold Medal tomato has won several awards, including the 2008 Tomato Tasting at Heritage Farm. These plants are grown from seeds harvested from our friendly neighbor Jan who grew the plants from last years tomato sale.
Jan was so kind to offer us fruits from her plants. Her fruits were so big, healthy, and beautiful that we wanted to select seed from her fine work growing.
