Japanese Black Trifele

, ,

Russian origin.

It was offered in the Seed Savers 1999 Yearbook by Åke Truedsson of Klagshamn, Sweden.

The original name is  Yaponskiy Trufel (ChernyiЯпонский трюфель). Upon arrival in North America it became known as Japanese Trifele Black, and now is known as Japanese Black Trifele.

Whatever you call it, it is delicious and beautiful. The fruits are brown / red with a golden glow, and dark shoulders. From time to time the shoulders can actually be yellow. The flavor is very sweet and pleasant but doesn’t linger in on the palate.
