The actual history of this variety is unknown. Most likely, it originated in Mexico. One account claims the fruit was brought back from the Americas to Spain and was believed to be from the fruit of life tree.
The fruits resemble a pumpkin with heavily ribbed and flattened fruit. They are a rich purple and have an unique deep rich flavor.
