Tomate verde is related to the tomatillo, and has similar growing habits, developing its fruit under the protection of a husk like pouch.
The fruits are green and dense, yet crisp and juicy. As they get large they get tough seeds. These fruits are good for roasting and making salsa verde, but also nice raw when young. The raw flavor is unusual. The texture is almost like an apple, but the flavor has strong and pungent aftertaste.
