The Pink Brandywine (Sudduth Strain)

,

Often said to be a 90 days from transplant harvestable tomato, but can actually take 120 days.

This beefsteak variety is pink fleshed and large — with fruits getting as big as 2 pounds. It is considered one of the most perfect tomatoes of all time by many heirloom tomato aficionados. Because of its rich, concentrated tomato flavor, excellent balance of sweetness and acidity and overall beautiful shape and color.

The growth pattern is a wild spreading indeterminate plant and is very prolific as a producer.

The tomato strain comes from Dorris Sudduth Hill who claims her family has grown it for over 100 years. It is of great importance among the heirloom tomato community and was given to Ben Quisenberry (Big Tomato Gardens), who listed it in the Seed Savers Exchange Yearbook in 1982. The smooth textured fruits are said to be the original and best Brandywine strain.
