Indeterminate mid season variety produces ripe fruit in 80 days or less. Created by Bill Jeffers. The fruits are purple and brown with green shoulders and an honey glow. The flesh is a bright contrast of colors, mixture of green, pink, and purple. The size of the fruit varies between 9-14 ounces. The flavor is concentrated, with deep richness and a strong sweetness. How this variety came about is a little unclear and convoluted. So, I will quote Bill Jeffers the creator: “WildThyme (one word) is so named because I got seeds from a lady whose online nickname is WildThyme. Her real name is Janet Abramson, and she is from California. She grew out some F2 seeds from Purple Haze, and got a medium sized, purple tomato. Maybe 4 ounces or something like that. Janet sent me F3 seeds, but I got one plant with a huge, green when ripe, bicolor beefsteak and a second plant with a huge, yellow/pink bicolor, indicating there may have been a bee cross in Janet’s garden. Or it could’ve been a recombination of the beefsteak genes in one of Purple Haze’s parents, I suppose”.
