Introduced by well known tomato expert Bill Jeffers. The story is as follows: After growing Golden Cherokee Tomato in 2009, Bill Jeffers (PapaVic) ended up with fruit that had a clear epidermis, a characteristic that is not in line with the Golden Cherokee variety. He attributed the odd change to a mutation. He named it Cherokee Lemon.
He sent the seeds to Theodore Corbett of Reichenbach-Steegen, Germany in 2010, who ended up with green fruit and a clear epidermis. That year so did Bill Jeffers. He named it Cherokee Lime. The fruits are average sized beefsteak tomatoes, with clear skin that allows for the beautiful green and yellow inner flesh color to shin through.
Today this variety has gained critical acclaim from tomato gardeners around the world.
It boast a great flavor that is sure to please anyone – sweet, salty, acidic, savory, and deep. It acts more like a dark variety with heavy flavor, than what you would expect of a green tomato.
