The Great White Blues tomato is an Indeterminate vine and ripens in about 80 days.
The fruits rage between 6 to 10 ounces. Acquiring the seeds for the Great White Blues tomato was very difficult, and eventually came from France. The tomato is a contrast of the darkest blue tomato and the whitest white, making for the most unique visual of any tomato I’ve grown. This shockingly beautiful tomato resulted as a segregate from the Great White and OSU P20 cross created by Stéphane Marier (owner of Solano Seeds) from Canada. This variety performs well in cold weather regions. There are several different grow outs with slightly different phenotype expression. First Reinhard Kraft grew out the F1 generation but gave seeds to his fellow breeders and was not quite stable which lead to many good versions that vary in shape, size and color but carry that distinct black antho shoulders covering the crisp white flesh. The names are almost identical in some cases and could be mistaken; “Great White Blues”, instead of “Great White Blue.”
The flesh of this variety is very meaty, extremely juicy and one of the sweetest out there. Best to grow in full sun for the most brilliant display of skin to flesh contrast. Some people say that it is necessary to support the fruits with pantyhose because the fruits produce in great abundance, but I have not noticed this. The unusual thing is they grow numerous fruits on truss more like an abundant cherry variety. The flavor gets more intense as the season turns cold and will decrease in seed number as season comes to an end. This is one tomato you don’t want to miss!
