This variety was introduced by German professor Klapprott, who got the seeds from a friend in in East Germany. First offered in the 1992 Seed Savers Yearbook. The name means “Indian Flesh”, which seems highly racist. As for the reason for the name, no information could be found.
The fruit however, is a beefsteak variety and flat with an unusual rich purple color and green shoulders. The inner flesh is chocolate colored and the flavor is an excellent combination of sweet and savory.
