According to Many tomato growers, the Green Moldovan Heirloom tomato is very hard to find. It has its origin from Moldova, but was first introduced in Seed Savers catalog in the 1998 Yearbook by Jeremiah Gettle of Mansfield Missouri (the owner of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds). The original seed were gifted by Glenn Drowns of Iowa.
The Green Moldovan tomato is a small beefsteak variety, but charmingly misshaped. It was one of the first discovered “ripe when green tomatoes”, and contains bright almost neon green flesh. It has light green skin with dark green shoulders – truly a beauty. The inside has two distinct caverns with a thick core, lots of gel covered seeds and juiciness.
The flavor is big and sour, suggests tropical citrus, yet the classic old world tomato flavor is very present.
