Queen of Malinalco Tomatillo

, , ,
The Queen of Malinalco is a very rare and unusual giant tomatillo variety originating in Malinalco, South-Western Mexico in the Ixtapan Region. The city has often been associated with magic, mystery, and sorcery tied into its goddess Malinalxóchitl and the legend of the appearance of the black Christ in the cave of the god Oxtoteotl. Every year people come to pay homage and is the second most visited holy shrine only after that of the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

The Queen of Malinalco tomatillo is especially prized for its  delicious and extra sweet flavor, but also for the large pear shaped golden fruit sometimes measuring up to 4” long. These tomatillos are great raw or cooked, fabulous as a roasted salsa, and a great choice for all tomatillo applications. It is a productive plant but the seeds are often very hard to germinate. If you are able to find a plant start for sale you are extra lucky because the seeds were both hard to find and hard to germinate. Like other tomatillo varieties it is best to have at least two plants to insure good pollination. This is one hard to find Mexican heirloom you won’t want to miss!

Each pot comes with 2 seedlings.
