In West Virginia Prisons during the 1940s and 1950s the inmates farmed their own gardens. The extra produce was sold locally and this tomato was one of the crops offered. It was known as the “prison tomato”. The fruit is red and juicy with a perfect balanced flavor. The Skins are thick and very rich in color. This is also a very rare variety sought after by tomato collectors.
