Indeterminate vines.The Blackhawk tomato comes from the University of Illinois,Urbana as a competitor to the famous Rutgers tomato, released in 1954.The variety is a true heirloom for serious seed collectors. Fruits are not big — about 6 oz. These tomatoes were selected for their high acidity which makes for a great ketchup or sauce tomato, and was particularly important in the tomato industry in the 1950s. It is also said to be one of the best for making tomato juice. This is a very, very rare Tomato.
