‘Negrillo de Almoguera’ originated in Almoguera, La Mancha in Spain. It is due to the efforts of the University of La Mancha researchers that this variety has been brought back from nearly extinct status. Even today the seeds are hard to come by and the variety is considered quite rare.
It is a large “black” variety (meaning that it is dark brown / purple in actual color and not truly black). It has dark green shoulders with yellow smudging, and a surprising inner flesh that is marbled pink and green.
The flavor is described as sweet and salty.
