Fruits grow on indeterminate vines and take 80 days to ripen. The persimmon tomato is an old heirloom variety first grown in 1781 by Thomas Jefferson. It is an orange tomato that has great depth and is uncharacteristic of an orange tomato because it lacks the acidity or mild flavor commonly found in several of the orange varieties. It is my experience that orange tomatoes fall at either extreme of the flavor spectrum; mild/bland or acidic and bright. Instead, has a rich and sugary flavor.  The persimmon tomato is not to confused with Russian persimmon tomato, which is similar in color but different in growth pattern and flavor profile.
