Originally from Burlington, New Jersey and introduced by W. Atlee Burpee in 1892 for commercial production.
It is a large pink / red tomato and hosts a significant desirable qualities as a round, beefsteak type market tomato.
It also has an amazing flavor that is unexpected from such a normal looking tomato. The flavor is rich, smokey, sweet, and salty with a hint of acidity, making it a perfect tomato. The inside is multi chambered, very juicy, and heavily seeded with beautiful gel covered seeds. This is the tomato that will leave your cutting board looking like a butchers table. For me, without a doubt it is the example of the perfect classic old world tomato – truly the finest of all red tomatoes!!!
