Caigua Achocha is a wild relative to the cucumber and is native to Bolivia. It is known for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure and helps to eliminate cellulite. Other benefits include regulating metabolism, burning fat, and reducing blood cholesterol. The Caigua Achocha produces a double positive effect on the one hand helps reduce LDL cholesterol, also known as bad, and secondly it helps to increase HDL cholesterol, known as good.
The Caigua fruit is part of the daily diet of the Bolivians. The plans is a strong producer and the fruits can be eaten young like cucumber, or seeded during maturity and stuffed and fried like peppers. The seed is recommended to treat hypertension. The fruits contain high levels of pectin, and galacturonic acid, mineral salts, and most importantly a steroidal compound, consisting of a mixture of sitoserol 3-Beta-d Glycoside, which is thought to assist in the treatment of high cholesterol and triglycerides.
