Indeterminate vines produce ripe fruit in 85 days from transplant. The Piccadilly tomato is native to southern Italy and are one of the primary varieties grown in Sicily in Pachino, Campania, and Puglia. It is believed to be an offspring of the ancient Vesuvian tomato.
Like the other Pachino tomatoes, the Piccadilly is popular for the high sugar content and juicy consistency combined with a savory flavor. They grow in clusters of 6 to 10 fruits and have a very good storage ability. The fruits are elongated and spherical in shape and have a firm, shiny skin.
In Italy, the Piccadilly tomatoes are often seen hung from their vines and displayed on kitchen walls for both decoration and easy storage. They are great fresh eaten, used for sauces, or dried and soaked in olive oil. The Piccadilly tomato is part of our Pachino Italian specialty tomato line featured for the 2021 sale.
